Seagrass sculpture
My seagrass sculptures reflect the fluidity, texture, and organic forms of seagrass swaying beneath the surface. I use natural glazes and earthy tones to echo the connection between land and sea, and the intricate ways in which these systems interact. The shapes and lines are meant to evoke a sense of movement, inviting the viewer to consider the life and processes beneath the ocean’s surface that go largely unseen but are vital to our planet’s health.
Seagrass meadows capture carbon at a rate many times faster than tropical rainforests, yet they are increasingly threatened by human activity. My work seeks to create a dialogue about the necessity of protecting these fragile ecosystems, emphasising that the preservation of seagrass is integral not only to marine biodiversity but also to combating climate change.
By blending the ancient art of ceramics with the modern urgency of environmental preservation, my aim is to inspire a sense of wonder and responsibility for the natural world, highlighting the intricate balance between art, nature, and sustainability.
